Many faculty and staff experience Social Emotional Learning (SEL) issues in their classrooms that inhibit their ability to be more effective in subject matter instruction. Additional SEL professional development and practice for faculty and staff is in order to facilitate, model, and teach these strategies to students and families more successfully. [1]
Discipline data indicates that, statistically, Black students are given more referrals and suspensions than their white, Latinx, and other BIPOC student peers. A more comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon by faculty/staff as well as by students/community is needed. Steps must be taken to ensure an equitable environment is the norm for all students and employees. [1]
