What does it mean to embrace

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

in the East Moline School District?

Embracing diversity means that we honor the full and individual identities of each member of our school community. In EMSD this looks like:

• intentional efforts to recruit and support staff whose identities reflect the identities of our students and families.

• all staff members understand their responsibility to actively seek to understand their own biases and build relationships with other members of the school community as individuals.

Ensuring equity and inclusion means that we consistently review systems and policies to guarantee all members of our school community have the same opportunity to access an outstanding educational experience. In EMSD, this looks like:

• all members of the school community understand their responsibility to co-create a safe and brave space.

• all staff members understand their responsibility to identify and work to address the opportunity gaps in our school system

• all staff members understand their responsibility to proactively identify and remove barriers to access at the district, school and classroom level.
