Background - the story so far
Background - the story so far
Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) is proud to be the host organisation for the Ethnic Minority Research Inclusion (EMRI) Network.
Previously hosted by the Yorkshire and Humber Research Delivery Network (RDN), EMRI is a regional initiative dedicated to improving the inclusivity of research across our communities. Its mission is to ensure that people from all backgrounds, particularly those historically under-represented, have better opportunities to participate in, shape, and benefit from health and care research.
The network builds on important work that began in 2020–21, when the Clinical Research Network Yorkshire and Humber (CRN Y&H) established the Ethnic Minority COVID-19 project. This project emerged in response to the growing recognition that COVID-19 was having a disproportionate impact on people from ethnic minority communities, highlighting the urgent need to increase representation in clinical research.
We believe research should:
Reflect diverse experiences
Be shaped with communities, not just about them
Reduce barriers to participation
Be inclusive from the start
What we focus on:
Connecting communities, researchers and institutions
Embedding equity and inclusion across the research lifecycle
Supporting studies that are representative, relevant and trusted
We exist to:
Reduce exclusion in research
Increase representation of minority communities in research
Improve relevance of studies
Ensure lived experience shapes decisions
