2021 Serhat ÖZYAR Young Scientist of the Year Honorary Award  [Link]

Dr. Emrah ONAT's thesis titled “FUSION OF INTERFEROMETRY AND RADARGRAMETRY TECHNIQUES IN SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADAR IMAGES” won the 2021 Young Scientist Honorary Award.

Dr. Emrah Onat completed his PhD thesis titled “Interferometry and Fusion of Radargrammetry Techniques in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images” at Hacettepe University. It was completed in 2020 under the consultancy of Dr. Yakup Özkazanç.

Dr. Onat's doctoral work is mainly on the improvement of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images using both interferometric and radargrammetric techniques in order to obtain more sensitive images in military defense systems. In the thesis, a dynamic fusion algorithm is proposed in which the outputs of the radargrammetry technique are used as input to the SAR interferometry (InSAR) technique. Thanks to this algorithm, which is the most original aspect of the study, it is determined that the error rate in the Digital Elevation Maps obtained is significantly reduced.

In the study, a comprehensive infrastructure was created by making simulations as well as theoretical examination of all algorithms used in InSAR and radargrammetry techniques. These techniques have been made easily applicable to different problems through an interface realized in the thesis. In addition, thanks to the different optimization and parallelization processes, a significant acceleration has been achieved in the algorithms used. Thanks to these results, the improvements to be obtained in the Altitude Maps obtained from SAR images will contribute to applications in many fields, both military and civilian.

There are three conference papers stemming from Dr. Onat's thesis work and there are article preparations for the SCI/SCI-Exp journals within the scope of the study.
