Co-Founder & Vice President of Empowherment
I am passionate about gender equality and empowering marginalized communities. As the Co-Founder and Vice President of Empowherment, I have played a small role in promoting feminist values and advocating under our organization.
I play football as a hobby and have been playing for about 7 years. Throughout this time I have constantly faced the issue of gender inequality in this sport. Children as young as 10 years old ask me why I play since “girls can’t play football”. I believe that this is a nonsensical statement that is told to me no matter where I go, people don’t consider me by my skills but the fact that I play football “decently” as a female player. This is one of the various reasons I co-founded this organization alongside Khairan Rei. I am a devout follower of the term “equity” which refers to fairness and justice in all sorts and forms of gender, race, cast and creed.
We started with a mere 5 followers on Instagram with only me and Khairan Rei as the people behind the organization and now have evolved to well over 150 followers alongside 30 volunteers working with us helping out with the graphic design, posts and workshops we conduct as a team under the name of empowherment.
I strongly believe in the power of education, community building, and activism to foster positive change in society. Khairan Rei and I are currently working on a workshop known as the Feminism Academy:Batch 1 Workshop.
I advocate for gender equality, and am trying to bring a voice of strength and commitment to every initiative.
Founder & President of Empowherment
I am the founder and president of the Empowherment Organization, where I am passionate about advocating for gender equality and empowering women and girls in their choices. My role has been crucial in making this organization a safe space for women to feel included and to work toward a more equal society.
I love writing in my mother tongue, creating poems, novels, short stories, and articles. Some of my work has been published online. However, as I developed my passion for writing, I faced challenges like gender stereotypes, toxic masculinity, and patriarchy cultural norms. It was discouraging to hear people say I should focus on STEM because I’m a male or judge me for showing emotion. These experiences made me question society’s expectations and explore ideas about gender stereotypes and patriarchy. This led me to discover feminism.
Feminism is a beautiful and empowering word. Since learning about it, I’ve researched and taken free courses on gender equality through UN Women. This has strengthened my belief that gender equality is essential, as no country has fully achieved it yet. Women still face issues like sexual violence, wage gaps, and cultural restrictions that limit their choices, and many more!
I strongly believe that women and girls deserve to make their own choices and live free from sexual violence and harassment. That’s why I proudly call myself a feminist. Together with my co-founder Parthivi, we started Empowherment to make sure women and girls have equal opportunities, regardless of their gender. What began with just five followers has grown into a bigger organization of 160 members, with 30 volunteers from around the world.
I will continue to advocate for gender equality until women and girls have the same opportunities. Until every country has achieved gender equality.
