Nyree Wilson - Learning Specialist
I am a Learning Specialist. Through my role as a curriculum developer, classroom teacher, and provider of professional learning, I aim to create learning cultures that empower and energise. I do so because positive climates of collaboration and inclusion help to sustain motivation and encourage us to explore and extend our individual and collective capacity.
I am a teacher of Literature, English, Humanities, History, and Global Politics. I focus on empowering students with the skills and knowledge that help them critically engage with their world, navigate their place within it, and purposefully shape their futures. Students thrive when they are empowered to recognise and build on their strengths and to take responsibility for what, and how they learn. It is energising to belong to a strong learning community that values all of its members.
I have a deep commitment to state education and the provision of inclusive and equitable access to high quality learning. I hold my colleagues in high regard, and draw great strength from walking alongside them to support the personal growth and academic development of our nation's young people.
The purpose of this space is to document some of the thinking that is the result of my research, my life and my work. I am engaging with this space as an artefact of the ideas and thinking generated through my experiences in state education and the corporate sector. I am also informed by my perspectives as a sociological observer and participant in the great complexity of humanity.
Academia has been a constant thread within the weave of my life for over 15 years. I enjoy conversation, I love 'talking shop' and needed to create a space to share my thinking in this way, it also reveals one of my cognitive biases!
As one of my mentors once remarked, "we are all shining beads in the strands of intellectual DNA that makes up the teaching profession". There is a hope that this space may create further connections with like-minded educators, who share a similar philosophy about inhabiting the field of education for the pure joy of it - and for the way in which membership of this learning community can help us thrive and create a more connected, empathetic, energised and ethical society.
Empowered educators, empower others.
