"I really enjoyed the content of this course and the passion Emma brought to the course. Even thought it was a required psychology you could tell that Emma was passionate about what she was teaching and her optimism and sense of humour throughout the course made it enjoyable. The studies reviewed were also very interesting and applicable."
"The organization for this course is amazing! It makes it easier for students to keep track of deadlines and makes me feel that the instructors put in a lot of effort in order to make the course as easy as possible. I also love that various opportunities were included for students to enhance their learning without being over-stressed with important assignments."
"[Emma] was very clear in the way that they described their research. I could also tell they were very passionate about their topic."
"I loved her lecture and found her research very interesting and helped me better understand the content of the course! Best guest lecture yet!"
"While examples can be a part of a lesson that help make our content and ideas come to life, they can also be used ineffectively and distract from our message and objectives. It was great to see how [Emma was] able to effectively use relevant examples to help explore the topic and link to personal experiences."
"In addition to creating an inviting classroom, [Emma] also created a supportive classroom environment by validating learner responses."

Certificate in University Teaching (CUT) certificate program, Center for Teaching Excellence, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON.
May 2019 – Sept 2020
The Certificate in University Teaching (CUT) program was designed to train graduate students to have both theoretical knowledge and skills that will promote their success in academic careers.
Through my time in this program, I have learned a wide array of teaching techniques that can applied to both classroom lecturing and student feedback. I was observed during two lecture teaching evaluations, and received excellent feedback on my teaching style and communication.
Furthermore, as part of a course requirement, I researched and wrote a paper on the role of instructors in student mental health in post-secondary education. This paper examined the existing literature and provided recommendations that could be beneficial for instructors. This paper was presented at the Certificate in University Teaching Research Colloquium in January 2020. To view the presentation.
Fundamentals of University Teaching Certificate, Center for Teaching Excellence, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON.
Jan 2018 – Mar 2019
The Fundamentals of University Teaching certificate teaches graduate students evidence-based strategies for teaching, and gives students the opportunity to practice professional development techniques.
In completing my certificate, I learned techniques for effective communication with students as well as how to provide written feedback to students that will assist in student-learning. Furthermore, I created lesson plans and presented three microteaching sessions for which I received very positive feedback and encouragement.
