The sessions all last 45-60 minutes and take place virtually via Google Meet. The sessions are a safe space for you to bring whatever you need to feel comfortable (hot drink, fidget toy, blanket etc). I am a relational therapist meaning there is a large focus on building a genuine therapeutic relationship with clients. One way this is built is allowing the space for the session to be client led. This doesn't mean I won't support you or talk but that you can have the autonomy to choose what you'd like the session to look like that day and lead if you want to. Some session might look like you having the space to voice what you're feeling and others might look like us looking at some education and tools together. I always want to align with what feels right for my clients and that they are getting what YOU need from the session where possible.
Sessions can be booked via Fresha (link on home page). Fresha is a third party site that means you can choose from all my availbility and find a time/day that suits you. An integrative therapist is a professional that instead of working in one way or with one theory they combine mulitple to give you a more fleixble and unique experience that suits you as a indivudal. They may just work with a couple difference approaches or a multitude. It is rare with anything that one way of doing things suits everyone, it can be the same with therapy. An Integrative therapist allows the support to be tailored to you and your needs.
There isn't anything specifically different between the three they are all ways of describing someone who works therpautically usually offering talking methods of support. Often they can refer to a therapists level of training with a psychotherapist implying their have a high level of education such as a masters degree however this isnt always the case. These titles can also include professionals who use methods such as art, animals and dance to support people.
Person Centred Theory (PCT)
Person centred theory is a humanistic approach that believes if provided with the right conditions every person can become their best self. PCT views it as essential that a therapist communicates genuine empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence to a client.
A person centred therapist will tend to provide client led sessions and view the therapist and client as equals. Meaning if you seek support from a PCT informed therapist you may be offered the space to bring what you want to the session and govern where the session goes as opposed to the therapist taking the led. A PCT therapist tends to be more relational as opposed to being very structured and clinical.
Attachment Theory (AT)
Attachment theory is an approach which places importance on your relationships and attachments to others. The theory places particular importance on your attachment experiences in childhood with your primary caregivers but can also include romantic, friendship and other attachments throughout your life so far. This theory suggests our attachment experiences especially in childhood then can go on to impact our future behaviours, thoughts, and approaches to relationships with others including our relationship with self.
Working with an attachment informed therapist such as myself means you will have a space to safely explore your childhood and attachment experiences to a depth you are comfortable with. This may mean an attachment informed therapist asks questions about your childhood or family dynamics. As always you do not have to talk about anything you are not comfortable with, but it can be helpful to keep in mind that these types of questions will come up when working with this type of therapist.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT focuses on your thoughts, feeling and emotions and suggests that all these different aspects can impact one another. CBT implies that as individuals we can get stuck in negative thought and behaviour patterns which can then impact our wellbeing and create or worsen difficulties such as anxiety and depression.
A CBT informed therapist can offer tools and education surrounding your thoughts, feeling and emotions to help you learn more about your processes and patterns. Therapist which use CBT may provide worksheets and tasks within and outside therapy.
