The facility features a MicroXCT-400 high-resolution 3D X-ray microscope system from Xradia Inc. 3D X-ray microscopy is commonly referred to as Micro X-Ray Computed Tomography or MicroXCT. The system has a 150 kV X-ray source and six available detector magnifications for X-ray spatial resolution down to about 1 micron. It is also equipped with a tensile/compression stage capable of maximum loading of 500 newton. For tomographic reconstruction and advanced visualization, the facility has a dedicated high-performance workstation featuring Avizo Fire advanced visualization software.
The MicroXCT system supports research and training in a range of projects including direct write printing, paleontology, membrane bio-fouling, concrete characterization, blast and impact personal protective equipment, soil and rock core evaluation, nanoenergetics, metallic foams, friction stir joining, cold spray deposition, and examination of various composite materials.Â
