June 2022 - Present
PACA is a no-kill pet shelter, and I volunteer to take care of and adopt out the cats and kittens at a nearby Petsmart. My responsibilities include cleaning their cages, playing with the cats (the most fun part), and interviewing possible adopters to see if they're a good fit for a cat. Spending time with these cats is a good break from the pressures of school and work, and it's for a good cause. The hardest part is resisting adopting all of the cats!

In November 2020 I heard that they were going to paint a mural on one the the most significant walls in Albuquerque, the wall to the Expo, where the state fair is held. It is on a street notorious for the amount of traffic accidents that happen on it. Vision Zero, a campaign with the goal of ending traffic accidents, partnered with a local art group called Artful Life to make this mural, with the lead artist being Andrew Fearnside. The Albuquerque Biopark includes a zoo, aquarium, and botanical gardens. Every summer, volunteers set up tables in various locations throughout the biopark. We would teach visitors about plants, animals, and how to respect the planet. We had tables about big cats, sharks and rays, and everything in between. Through this position, I became more mindful of how my actions affect my carbon footprint, and what I can do to contribute to saving our planet. I also learned lots of cool animal facts! Did you know that giraffes do not have vocal cords?
