● Introduction to SEN – Raising awareness, Definition, Labelling
● Reflecting on own teaching experiences of SEN
● An overview of the area of SEN
● ISEN and the English Education system and an overview of the education policy on SEN in Britain and participants’ countries
● Anticipating problems with inclusion, both for learners and teachers
Day 2: Different models for understanding SEN
● Three models for understanding SEN
● Access to education vs real engagement in learning
● Workshop - Case studies and developing action plans
● Including SEN students in the mainstream classroom
● Preferred learning styles - Recognising different learning styles and NLP
● Left and right brain learning
● VAK - catering for all learning styles
Day 3: SEN categories and identification
● Categories - different types of SEN. Identifying characteristics of different types of SEN learners
● SEN categories and how to help - support techniques
● Workshop - Case study and developing action plan
Day 4: Inclusive teaching and practical activities for teaching students with specific learning difficulties
● Ways of dealing with diversity in the classroom and differentiated teaching: different ways and techniques to differentiate instructions, content, assessment, etc.
● Methods of adapting your teaching style and materials to reflect classroom diversity
Day 5: Inclusive assessment and Approaches to whole school planning for SEN
● Inclusive assessment approaches and student engagement
● Three approaches to whole school planning for SEN
● Whole school planning for SEN – provision mapping, IEP/ILPs
● Working in partnership with parents
Day 6: Case Study and Focus on Specific Education Needs
● Case study of a learner with specific SEN
● Participants will decide which categories of SEN specified below they would like to focus on
● Input session followed by a workshop
● Support strategies, assessment and material development to cater for specific education needs learners
Day 7: Planning for all students
● Ways of Dealing with Diversity in the Classroom and Differentiated Teaching: Different Ways and Techniques to Differentiate Instructions, Content, Assessment, etc.
● Methods of Adapting your Teaching Style and Materials to Reflect Classroom Diversity
● Task Based Teaching and Learning as the Framework for Differentiated Teaching
● Task Based Interactive Session on the Different Educational Models in the UK and Participants’ Countries
Day 8: British Culture and Social Programme
● Kensington sights: V&A, Gardens, etc.
Day 9: Needs Driven Session
● Autism Spectrum Disorder
● Assessment and reasonable adjustments
Day 10: End of Course Revision and SEN Glossary
● Developing SEN glossary
● End of course revision of the topics covered
● What useful materials are available?
● Presentation of certificates and end of course feedback
