Race day has a carnival atmosphere with several local Scouts BSA Troops selling refreshments as well as music and decorations. The local community is invited to come watch and cheer for these intrepid Cub Scout racers. Grand Ave is closed from Sheldon to Standard streets to accommodate the race. DERBY DAY HINTS & TIPS
From the Pros
Arrive early - give yourself time to setup your area in "Pit Row" and comfortably get through check-in and car inspection. Remember - NO MODIFICATIONS ONCE INSPECTION IS COMPLETED.
Most racers and leaders wear the Cub Scout "Activity Uniform" (aka "Class B").
It will be hot - bring a water bottle or a small cooler to keep at "Pit Row".
Your "Pit Row" setup may include a pop-up shade tent (that must be weighted per city requirements) along with chair(s) and optionally saw horses or stands for the car. Some teams bring a rope or hook and strap to use to tow the car back up the hill after the heats.
There will be food and snacks available for purchase from local Scouts BSA Troops. There are also nearby businesses including pizza, drug store, and coffee shops.
Don't forget your helmet and the completed BSA Health Form parts A&B!
And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, have fun!
