On each trip to HJ Andrews, we were able to give each student a hands-on, interdisciplinary experience with nature, unlike any classroom learning. Each lesson allowed students to gain necessary life skills such as graphing, data collection, mapping, orienteering, and observation through place-based learning. Throughout these field trips, students were encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions in order to deepen their understanding of climate justice, microclimates, phenology, and tree identification.
