FAQs
What can I use the mobility funds for?
The mobility funds are meant to support you while initiating a research collaboration with an ELLIS Fellow,
Scholar or Member at another ELLIS site. Therefore, you can use the funds for any travel costs you incur while
visiting a host institution where you will be supervised by an ELLIS Fellow, Scholar, or Member for the purposes
of research collaboration. In practice, the funds should be used to facilitate your exchange.
Restrictions: the costs must be made between September 1, 2020 – July 31, 2023, and cannot exceed €2500
in total.
Can I use the mobility funds for:
1. Travel from home country → place of PhD?
- No.
2. ELLIS Symposium / ELLIS program events?
- No. This may change in the future, but is not currently allowed.
3. Conferences or other (external) events?
- No, although you may certainly attend conferences and other events while conducting your exchange with
an ELLIS Fellow/Scholar/Member, in which case travel costs may be covered.
4. Accommodation during my exchange?
- Yes, as long as you can provide the original receipts / invoices.
5. Air travel
As of 2022 air travel is restricted and needs to be justified (if the business or economic reasons outweigh
climate concerns). Therefore, we strongly encourage you to travel by train.
For students working at ELISE beneficiaries the rules of the beneficiary's institution apply.
Can I get reimbursed even if I am still not officially enrolled as a PhD student but will be in the future?
You can only get reimbursed if you are enrolled when travelling, however if your application is sent at a
