The Beach

"Pokemon Snap meets the childhood mind"

 The Beach is a low-poly picture-capturing game.

Take pictures of your environment and unlock the mystery of what happened at the beach.

Here are the two trailers I created for the project, each presenting a distinct perspective: one emphasises a narrative-driven approach, while the other showcases the landscape. Between the two, they show a different progression of the project, changes in the environment, mechanics, and overall feel of the project.

With every project, I aim to build on my previous work and either expand upon it or learn something entirely new. In this assignment, I achieved both. I explored the 2D Scene Capture component within UE4, enabling the player to capture a frame from the game. By converting this capture into a material, I assigned it to a Polaroid model I created.

Additionally, I enhanced my skills in asset creation and material IDs within both 3Ds Max and Unreal Engine, delving deeper into level design and the significance of environmental flow.

The story follows a young boy named Jimmy, who receives a new camera for his birthday. Thrilled with his gift, he is even more excited when his mother surprises him with a trip to the beach. Jimmy eagerly takes pictures of everything he sees—seagulls, crabs, and even empty cans.

However, something feels amiss. Why is there a life ring floating in the water? Is someone in trouble?

Capture photographs and uncover the mystery of what happened that day on the beach.
