This semester has been both challenging and rewarding. At the beginning of the semester I didn't think I was going to be very proficient in the class, but as time went on I progressively got better. In English 1101 we focused mainly on rhetorical writing. Project 1 consisted of writing about whether or not we were a part of the oppressed or the privileged. This allowed me to reflect on my life and give the audience an insight of what it's like being an African American male in America. Project 2 consisted of critiquing and clarifying an article on a cultural event to an imagined audience in the form of a podcast. This project gave me the opportunity to practice projecting my voice and tone. Also it allowed me to gain more confidence in hearing my voice being displayed for others to possibly constructively criticize. Project 3 consisted of observing, describing and responding to cultural codes communicated in a piece of visual media. This gave me the chance to quote famous authors such as Jean Kilbourne. Lastly Project 4 was a Multi Service Learning Project where we took one of our previous projects and created a remix. Originally it was set out to be a group project but mother nature had other plans intended for us (Coronavirus), so I deviated plans and decided to do a podcast on the virus. I would highly suggest this class if you're looking to become a better writer and analytical thinker, this class will successfully prepare you for future endeavors.
