I'm an experienced economic, social, and gender consultant based in Mauritius. I am a faculty member at Parami University, an online liberal arts college affiliated with Bard College in the US, an honorary research fellow at UCL, a fellow at the Global Labor Organization, and I am also affiliated with IOS-Regensburg, Germany and CELSI, Slovakia. I am associate editor at Gender, Technology and Development.
I received my PhD from Princeton University in 2011 and my undergraduate degree from Gettysburg College in the US. I have published widely on gender economics, labor, social and economic development, entrepreneurship, political economy, economic history, comparative politics and democratization, and the politics and economics of development and transition. My research has been funded by UCL, Zayed University, and the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI). Recently, together with colleagues at University of Mauritius and University of Technology Mauritius, I was awarded an SVRI grant of USD 150,000 for an 18-month project to study sexual harassment in the tourism industry in Mauritius.
In the past, I held positions as an Associate Professor and one of the founding faculty at Zayed University (College of Interdisciplinary Studies, working remotely from Mauritius), an Assistant Professor in Economics at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London, and an economist at the EBRD in London, where I was also head investigator for the EBRD-World Bank Life in Transition Survey.
I have conducted policy work for the EBRD, World Bank, IMF, Council of Europe Development Bank, UNDP, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the African Development Bank, European Commission, UN ESCWA, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Islamic Development Bank, and the French Development Agency. My work has covered Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa, and I'm fluent in English, Bulgarian, Russian, and Italian, and have a working knowledge of French.
