The following resources have been curated to help educators meet the needs of English Language Learners as well as build communication with their parents and guardians.
The WIDA Can Do Descriptors are commonly used by ESL teachers in coaching general education teachers about differentiated instruction for English language learners (ELLs). They can also be used to plan lessons or observe students' progress. Visit the WIDA website to select your grade level cluster, download and view PDFs of the Can Do Descriptors.
This tool developed at http://mplsesl.wikispaces.com represents teacher efforts to better understand, explain and use the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards, our state-mandated standards for ESL instruction. These materials are neither produced nor authorized by the WIDA test-publishing company.
The 2020 WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards* reflect the belief that multilingual learners are best served when they learn content and language together in linguistically and culturally sustaining ways. The 2020 Edition recommits to this belief by maintaining the five original WIDA ELD Standards Statements while adding new and expanded resources to address updates in policy, theory, and practice.
Pennsylvania Department of Education created the ELD Portal PA website to provide districts, schools, and educators in Pennsylvania with professional multilingual parent notifications notices.
These documents may be used by schools to communicate with parents for various purposes required by state and/or federal laws and policies. Documents are translated into the most represented languages in Pennsylvania within the constraints of the program budget. Additional languages may be added as demographics within the state change and future budgets allow.

TalkingPoints is a free parent-teacher messaging app with translation. Teachers send text messages in English using the web or mobile app. Parents receive and reply to the text messages in their home languages. Use TalkingPoints to communicate important announcements and updates.
A bilingual site for educators and families of English language learners. It offers abundant resources including strategies, ideas, recommendations, resources, videos, and news from the ELL field. Resources are organized by the topics below and additional Resources by Grade level, content instruction, and are also available in our ELL Basics section.
In addition to supporting teacher, this website is filled with resources for parents including reading tips and games, bilingual booklists, ideas for using the public library, and videos of children’s authors, illustrators, and musicians. Resources are organized by topic and many have translation options.
