Lingro is a web tool and open content dictionary allows students to enter a web address (URL) and make all of the words on that page clickable to see definitions and translation. A clicked word immediately displays a definition from the Lingro dictionary pages. The website looks visually the same within the Lingro webpage, but all words become clickable. Lingro has the ability to translate to and from English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Polish with more languages to be added. Recommend Grades 2-12
The Readability Test Tool allows you to test any website's readability by URL or direct text pasted from any source. Simply enter the web address (URL) and get the readability of the site on different scales. You will get a score for the most used readability indicators: Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease and Grade Level, Gunning Fog Score, Coleman Liau Index, and Automated Readability Index (ARI). The tool also includes explanations of each scale. These tell much more than a simple "grade level." Grades 1-12
The visual interactive display are automatically color coded according to parts of speech. Look up as many words as you need anytime; there is no limit on the number of searches and no registration is required. As with most online tools, teacher monitoring is strongly advised.
Demonstrate it on your classroom whiteboard or projector, bookmark it in your favorites, and make it directly available to students from your class webpage. Students will enjoy defining their spelling words or content area vocabulary. They can categorize their words by parts of speech or create a list of synonyms. Recommend Grades 3-12.

Check out these free audio book resources to share with ESL students. By hearing the proper pronunciation of words in an audio book, students are able to better comprehend and retain the English language. By providing a transcript for the students to follow along, they’ll be able to listen to the story and see the words at the same time, providing a new level of understanding. The Unite forLiteracy Library offers simple audio books for young readers and Beginner ELLs. Select and click a book to read. Audio is accompanied with text and vibrant illustration. The narration is also available in 34 different languages. Unite for Literacy is perfect for use with ESL/ELL students for reading and hearing books in both English and their native language. Share a link to the site on your website or newsletter for use at home. World language teachers can use this site to have students listen to books in the language they are learning.

This free learn-to-read web site is arranged in four different main sections: ABCs, Learn to Read, It’s Fun to Read and I’m Reading. This site is great for the beginning readers. It scaffolds reading instruction through images and interactive voice-over stories. Grades K - 3
Into the Book Into The Book is a reading comprehension resource designed for elementary students and teachers. However, older ELL students would get something out of it as well. Content is offered in both English and Spanish. The site focuses on eight reading strategies: Using Prior Knowledge, Making Connections, Questioning, Visualizing, Inferring, Summarizing, Evaluating and Synthesizing. Students work through online interactive activities and short videos.
NEWSLEA provides teachers, parents, and students with current event articles scaled at five different Lexile reading comprehension levels. Students read articles covering a wide variety of topics then complete accompanying Common Core-aligned quizzes. Teachers have the ability to assign articles and monitor student progress through the Newsela Binder feature.
