let's be friends on goodreads!
From Blood and Ash ⭑⭑⭒⭒⭒
What in the world–
Our main character, Poppy, is someone called the Maiden. And 600+ pages later, I still have no idea what the hell a Maiden is.
For about 60% of this book's runtime, I was incredibly bored. Nothing was happening and the info dumps were a work of art. Whenever Poppy had to read about the world's history, so did we. Poppy doesn't like reading history and unfortunately, NEITHER DO I. I'm glad I got to suffer with her, though.
I hated the main lead dude with a burning passion. He's the type of guy that you get warned about in health class to run the other way from if you ever encounter him. He's very possessive and makes Edward Cullins look like a doting grandma. 🚩RED FLAGS RED FLAGS🚩
So there's no plot for a good majority of this book. It's kind of revealed at the end that there WAS a plot 90% of the book, but there's still nothing that explains why anyone was doing anything. The only reason I liked the last 40% of the book was because the book started sprinting. I was about to put down this one down, which was a bummer because I never like not finishing a book, when suddenly there was an ATTACK. And everyone was screaming and freaking out and I suddenly woke up from my coma and was like, "YES, AN ATTACK!" I'm talking a pretty prominent character died, who I didn't really care about because I felt like snoozing for the first half, and there were some pretty crazy fight scenes. I don't know why it took so long to get to something of interest, but AT LEAST SOMETHING HAPPENED.
The ending was decently fine. There were some good reveals in there. After I finished I honestly felt like my brain got put in a blender. I don't think that this book deserves a 4.31 rating on Goodreads but who am I to judge? Anyways, will I continue the series? Yes. Yes I will. And it's either because I like writing rant reviews or I just don't like myself. Not sure which one but I hope the next one will pick up some speed.
A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire ⭑⭒⭒⭒⭒
Yes. I read it. It didn't pick up speed. I regret it. Note to self: if you don't like a book, DON'T READ THE DANG SEQUEL. Anyways, let's talk about it.
There's a lot of walking, riding horses, and asking questions, and I was BORED. C'mon, this thing is like 630 pages and 450 of that is nothing. I SHOULD have only taken 2 or 3 days to read this but I was just so bored that I couldn't continue.
This is the entire book in a nutshell:
Kieren: "You have questions."
Poppy: "Yes, I do."
Me: -_-
I took in like 0% of the world building so really I just wasted about 6 hours of my life reading useless world building and info dumps. Can I get like those 6 hours back now, please?
I give up. This series has reached a dead end for me.
