IEEE also runs a larger program called IEEE-epics where they fund large scale projects up to $10,000. Each project involves multiple male and female students from high school to gradaute school. These projects can serve your communities or communities abroad. See below to learn more and to see past and future projects our club is working on.
This project was completed by students of the Bridgewater-Raritan Highschool IEEE club, led by Arijit Dutta. Spanning multiple years and sub projects, the club created a computer lab/library in the village of Paushi, West Bengal. By providing poverty stricken children with exposure to computers, printers, books, and learning, Arijit aims to expand the opportunities of these children who would otherwise be consigned to a life of manual labor or farming.
This future project will be completed by Sunrit Panda and the officers of this club to address a water shortage in the village of Paushi, West Bengal. The goal is to build a deep bore tubewell that will bypass the pollution in the few remaining surface level aquifers. Instead the well will bring clean water from a depth of 300 meters to the surface. This solution will provide a source of hydration for hundreds of villagers who would other wise have to depend on the current inconsistent and polluted wells. In addition, we will partner with researchers from the Birla Institute of Technology to replicate their low-cost Raspberry Pi based water quality sensor. Finally, our club will create a water safety curriculum to educate children who frequent the library created in a previous IEEE-epics project (see left).
