While the immediate goal of our educational research is to help students succeed in foundational courses, the overarching mission is far more profound: building engineering character. With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, factual knowledge is no longer the sole defining trait of a successful engineer. To thrive, modern students must move beyond simply finding answers and develop the intellectual resilience and critical thinking skills that cannot be automated.
The Testing Ground: Undergraduate Engineering Statics Course
Statics is a notoriously difficult subject, historically suffering from one of the highest failure rates in engineering programs nationwide. Because it acts as a major barrier to student success, it is the perfect environment to test new pedagogical interventions. We are currently implementing our AI-assisted interactive STATICS method programming tool directly into the classroom to address this challenge.
How the Tool Works:
Pinpoints Knowledge Gaps: The program actively identifies exactly where a student's logic breaks down during complex physics problems.
