A low-cost, modular PEM fuel cell test station: design, validation, and LabVIEW control [Maimani, Kong, & Ronney, manuscript in preparation, 2026]
We design and evaluate fuel cells and related electrochemical devices across a range of fuel types relevant to agriculture and waste streams — including urea, direct biomass, and hydrocarbon fuels. Our work examines how fuel choice affects cell performance, catalyst behavior, and operating dynamics, with the goal of identifying practical fuel cell configurations for on-farm and food-system energy recovery. This includes building and testing experimental platforms, such as our modular LabVIEW-controlled PEM fuel cell test station, to characterize device performance under different fuels and operating conditions.
