In the suspension group, we keep all four wheels in contact with the ground. This simple task creates a lot of opportunities for you to learn how race car dynamics and mechanical systems work and apply theoretical knowledge to a real project, for example, via a bachelor’s or master’s thesis or as a free-time project killer. Our work includes:
Tire - Understanding tire behavior and creating mathematical models
Kinematics - Determining how the wheel moves to maximize contact with the road
In-house simulation tools - Driver-in-the-Loop simulator and an in-house kinematics solver
Testing - changing setups on the car and understanding how they affect the car
Mechanical design - Inboard suspension, steering system FEM
Work with laminates - in-house carbon fiber rims and A-arms
