ASSESSMENTS

ASSESSMENTS WE OFFER AT SEN CONSULTING ASIA

Psychometric assessments can help identify the problems children face. They can also tell us how parents and schools can work together to correct or improve difficulties with learning. Here is just a sample of some of the assessments we offer.

Dyselxia

We use a range of standardized tests including the Dyslexia Portfolio by GL Assessment to help diagnose dyslexic tendancies.

Access Arrangements

We have a range of tests that can help students obtain extra time during exams or up to 50%, as well as a reader and scribe to support them.

Single Word Reading, Spelling & Comprehension

The Wide Range Achievement Test, fifth edition (WRAT5) is a simple but effective test of Spelling and Reading. It can be used at Primary level and also for for exam arrangements at Secondary Level. It includes a spelling test that can be administered in a group or one-to-one, plus a single word and reading comprehension test. It can be useful for understanding the attainment level of students on entry and can also measure their progress over time.

Writing Fluency

The Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting (DASH) assesses how quickly students write per minute; this then is turned into a standardised score. Assessing how fast a student can write can be useful for finiding out their readiness for exams and can help determine if their are problems with fine motor skills, or phonological processing.

Phonics

The Phonological Assessment Battery (PhAB) tests phonological ability in children aged 5-14. It has sub-tests in alliteration, naming speed, rhyme, spoonerisms, fluency and non-word reading. PhAB2 includes extra sub-tests such as blending, phonological working memory, phoneme segmentation and phoneme deletion. We also use Phonics Tracker. Phonics Tracker is an instant assessment and tracking program for phonics, high frequency words and the phonics screening check. Designed by teachers for teachers to simplify the assessment of phonics by instantly recording whether a child can successfully pronounce the phoneme or word, tracking progress across the primary English curriculum.

Motor Skills

The Beery VMI test is backed by extensive research, offers an economical way to screen for visual-motor deficits that can lead to learning, behavior and neuropsychological problems

Language

The Kaufman Survey of Early Academic and Language Skills (K-SEALS) is a valuable tool for testing school readiness, identifying gifted children, evaluating program effectiveness, and researching children’s early development.

Gifted & Talented

We have a range of tests such as cognitive abilities tests that can help support decisions in school over gifted and talented students who are working well above the average range for their year group and require additional support. We can also support applications to MENSA (www.mensa.org)

Maths Computation

The WRAT 5 Maths Computation Test measures an individual's ability to count, identify numbers, solve simple oral maths problems, and calculate written maths problems with a time limit. Problems are presented in a range of domains, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and advanced operations.
