Increasing Indiscipline Among Teenagers (10 marks)
‘Indiscipline is surely a problem but the greater problem is its widening sphere.’
A very pleasant morning to everyone. Respected Principal, teachers and my friends, today, I have got the opportunity to speak on a very crucial issue of ‘Increasing Indiscipline Among Teenagers’.
It is true indiscipline has widened its scope and sphere, from inside the classroom it has reached the road. Today acts of indiscipline are not limited to playing mean pranks, slight tiffs and fights, arguing or making fun of someone, these acts have become more severe with dangerous consequences. Disobedience towards teachers and parents has become a common occurrence. Nowadays, gun culture and substance intake is a new normal. It is alarming to see school students involved in ‘gang-wars’- thanks to the easy access to the internet. You will all agree with me that though getting information is easy, getting misinformation is thrilling, just google it and be brainwashed.
This brings me to a crucial question: what drives a teenager towards indiscipline? This is not a hidden fact that the fast pace of life, cut throat competitions, nuclear families and reduced family time are some of the factors that have taken toll over the immature mind of the youngsters. Also, there is no denying that teenagers these days lack good role models. They follow internet stars and influencers and try to imitate their life. At the age when they need someone to talk to, someone who doesn’t judge them, parents and elder siblings are busy in their own daily grind. So, they are left to look for answers on the internet or from complete strangers. As a result many start living in their own world and are cut off from their family and friends. This can have serious implications which can ruin their life forever.
Can anyone tell me who is benefitting from this? Neither the teenager nor the society. So, to curb this problem we need to work together. The most important role has to be played by the school. Adequate facilities should be provided in schools for effective learning, sports should be an integral part of the curriculum as games and physical activities help channelize the energy of these youngsters in the right direction. Moral education and time to time counseling has become the need of the hour. Parents should also spend quality time with their children and monitor their internet usage. One thing that the parents must not ignore is monitoring the habits and knowing the friends of your child, which can really help. After all, we need a disciplined future.
I will end my speech with a caution for teenagers-
‘This world sets baits for people and it depends upon you whether you grab it or pass it.’
Thank you for your patient hearing.
