TSTA: "After many months of Education Round Rock championing due process and progressive discipline for at-will employees of Round Rock ISD, the school board finally approved language in Board Policy DCD Local that protects district employees without a contract.
Education Round Rock members’ continued presence and participation in school board meetings — led by President Tammy Conrad, pictured above providing testimony on behalf of ESPs and other at-will district employees — helped keep the pressure on district leaders to change the local policy in favor of due process rights. TSTA encourages all locals to be a constant, visual presence in school board meetings.
“The board agreed with us that ALL employees deserve a fair procedural process before their employment is terminated,” said Conrad. “Employees on Chapter 21 contracts (such as teachers and administrators) already had due process/progressive discipline outlined in Board Policy, but other employees were left out. In approving the change to Policy DCD Local, Round Rock ISD joins a dozen other large Texas school districts in beefing up protections for their employees.”
The policy change is thanks to Education Round Rock members’ continued solidarity and commitment to protecting ALL employees, as well as their persistence in advocating at board meetings.
“We would like to thank the Superintendent, HR and Trustees for working with us on this issue,” Conrad said."
