Course Overview

This e-Learning course is an introduction to topics associated with educational research best practices. The information provided here will assist professional teachers and university faculty through the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, as they plan, implement, and evaluate research for use in classrooms as well as for publications. 

The information in this e-Learning course will help teachers and faculty to improve their understanding of how to design educational research studies and how to begin thinking about publishing in academic journals or in other scholarly sources. 

It is provided in English and Khmer, where possible. Embedded videos on YouTube have closed caption options for Khmer. Assessments are in English only.

When viewed on a desktop, the English will be on the left and the Khmer will be on the right. When viewed on a mobile device, the English will be first and the Khmer will be after it as you scroll down. Optimal viewing is on a desktop.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to

• Accurately identify types of research and understand their relevance to professional teaching practice.

• Accurately identify best practices for publishing research and understand their relevance to professional teaching practice.

Closed Captions for Embedded YouTube Videos

Each of the three modules in this e-learning course has at least one video that is hosted on YouTube. 

This YouTube video is equipped with closed captions in Khmer and other languages. To activate closed captions in Khmer, follow these instructions:

• Open the video on YouTube.

• Click the CC button so it is underlined in red.

• Click the Settings (Gear) Button.

• Click Subtitles.

• Click Auto-translate.

How to Use This e-Learning Course

There are three sequential modules within this e-Learning Course. You will complete Module 1, then Module 2, and finally Module 3. Within each module are text-based instructions, lessons, and activities; video-based mini lessons and activities; and an assessment at the end of each module. 

Google Account

To complete this course, you will also need a Google account, which can be created for free here. The assessments found throughout the course are in Google Forms, which requires Google account access. 

Active Learning Worksheet

There is an Active Learning Worksheet that should be kept open on your computer, or downloaded and printed. The Active Learning Worksheet was designed to prompt learners to reflect on what they have learned and to document ideas at appropriate times throughout the lessons in all three modules. You are not required to complete the Active Learning Worksheet, but it is highly encouraged to promote knowledge retention and to bring real-world applicability to the lessons in this e-Learning course.
