After taking the Implicit Test, I received the result "Your data suggest a strong implicit association linking True with $15 min. wage HELPS the economy and False with $15 min. wage HURTS the economy."
This is quite true, as I consider myself to be strongly liberal in my beliefs. I myself work full-time at a little above New Mexico's minimum wage ($9.00 hourly) while also being a full time student, and I am having an incredibly difficult time making ends meet. I have firsthand experience seeing the struggles of a low minimum wage, which is what swayed my beliefs.
While taking the Longface/Squareface-- Good/Bad IAT, the thought that square faces are considered to be good, and longfaces are considered to be bad were forced into my mind from the beginning. After a few tests, I had a sudden dislike for long faces, which is something I had never thought twice about before. The study was about how people acquire new attitudes towards social groups. I was told that longfaces are bad, so I automatically assumed any negative picture or word shown to me was associated with longfaces. This study is especially relevant in our LLSS 315 class, because we are learning about teaching diverse groups of students, and we cannot have this bias inside of us when teaching them.
