Technology applied in the classroom
Increasing use of Information and Communication and Technology (ICT) in school's helps prepare students for the digital demands of the professional world. Quizlet provides a stress-free competitive environment that reinforces student's knowledge and enhances student engagement and motivation to learn new concepts and expand their vocabulary (Setiawan, M. R, et al., 2020; Yilmaz, S. 2023).
Quizlet is a creative space that involves multiple modes of learning to develop students’ vocabulary and basic understanding of the concept being taught. It includes many features such as flashcards, blast-race game and match. Quizlet is not limited to the behaviorist approach, students can be empowered to design and develop flashcards or games of their own (Bower, M. 2017).
Quizlet has helped improve emotional and cognitive learning, increase students’ vocabulary achievement and attitude towards learning. Quizlet can likely augment the learning experience and facilitate new and unknown content in a stimulating and engaging way (Ozdemir, O. et al., 2024).
Teaching Pedagogies and Technology
The notion of ‘one size fits all' is insufficient for satisfying the learning needs of students in today’s digital world. It is important to develop lessons that involve technology in content and pedagogy, this is referred to as Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge (TPACK).
What does this look like in the classroom? Integrating Quizlet with the behaviorist approach and a chosen topic from the syllabus is an example of applying the relationship between the three components PCK (Bower, M. 2017).
Quizlet takes on the behaviorist approach as it follows the basic structure of having correct and incorrect answers along with providing instant feedback. In contrast, it does not consider the student's reasoning and mental processing (Bower, M. 2017).
Does it help achieve General Capabilities?
Quizlet helps achieve the general capability, ICT and literacy. Students practice using digital media appropriately and safely, students also apply digital skills and knowledge to understand the media's features and functions and navigate the system.
Quizlet’s purpose is to help students expand their vocabulary in a specific subject area and Students are required to apply their literacy skills to listen or read and interpret the question to provide the most appropriate response.
