MEDT 7476 Assessing Learning in Technology-Enhanced Instruction
Below is an assessment plan that was created for a teacher in my same content at a different middle school, in 8th grade. It was created with a focus on student assessment principles along with technology enhanced instruction. The product that the students were responsible for completing was a performance task, after lessons on stem changing verbs. Students were given technological tools to learn the content, then provide evidence of their mastery of the concepts and mechanics.
In the Instructional Design plan, the a lesson and assessment were created to meet a teacher's need to bring technology with visual and media literacy into the classroom with added value in an 8th grade Spanish I (High School Level) class.
Reflection
These projects stretched my thinking and designing abilities to meet the needs of the teacher. Realizing that teachers need user friendly tools to do their tasks just like students do. To effectively implement technology for the teacher above, I had to do an extensive analysis to understand teacher's need and ultimate goal. Further, I had to understand the barriers in meeting the goals of the students and address them. The teacher I chose is someone that I worked closely with in the past, while we both taught 8th grade Spanish in my current school. Presently, she teaches at a different school same grade level and content, while I now teach 6th grade Spanish. She is a seasoned veteran of the classroom for 17 years and I admire how she delivers instruction in a wholistic, comprehensible way. From what she self reported, she was using technology tools sparingly and was overwhelmed by all the Apps and platforms available. She was open to learning new ways to enhance her teaching and welcomed my ideas. This experience was meaningful to both of us because of her willingness accept my input and suggestions to better serve the students in her class.
