Hi everyone! I’m Anna and I study Chinese and Spanish. I am excited to be the President of CFS for the 2026/27 academic year! 

I’ve recently returned from my year abroad studying Chinese at Fudan University. My time abroad gave me an even greater appreciation for language learning and cultural exchange. 

I am looking forward to being back in Edinburgh and meeting both familiar and new faces through CFS, and helping to create another fun and welcoming year for the society!

Hi CFS! I’m George (周佩纯) and I am super excited to work alongside my friends in the role of Treasurer for the upcoming year. I am just returning from an incredible year abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai, and I can’t wait to get back to Edinburgh and get to meet you all! My main interests of study are food culture and gender studies, and my hobbies include cooking, discovering new music, and going on walks. I’m already missing the food, people, and 哈喽单车s in China, so if you have any questions about life in China or want to chat about anything at all, please don’t be shy, drop me a message! :)

I’m excited to join CFS as the Head of External Relations.

I’m currently attending a “Doing Business in China” programme in Ningbo, and I hope to bring those insights into curating guest speaker events that bridge cultures and spark meaningful conversations. Beyond cultures, I hope to create opportunities to explore current affairs, China’s business landscape, and see the country through a different lens.

Hi, I’m Michael, a PhD student in Philosophy of Education. I’m from Guangdong, China. PhD Liaison is a new role established this year. I hope to contribute, where I can, to creating more opportunities for our members to build connections and access useful resources for their studies, interests and future careers. A little more about me. My research focuses on aesthetics and aesthetic education, Daoism, and Pragmatism, and I work with supervisors across the School of Education and Sport, Edinburgh College of Art, and the Department of Philosophy.

Hi! I’m Liv, a final year student reading Chinese and French and I’m really excited to take on the role of Head of Academic Relations this year!

Last semester, I was lucky enough to study at Peking University in Beijing. Getting used to Mandarin again was challenging at first, but it was a deeply rewarding experience and I made many wonderful friends from all over the world. 

I also sat HSK exams before I left Edinburgh, which helped me secure the Confucius Institute Scholarship for my time in Beijing. I’d be happy to help if you have any questions about studying Mandarin, the year abroad in China, balancing two languages or about scholarship opportunities!

Hi everyone, I’m Tilly and I’ll be one of this year’s CFS third year representatives! I study Chinese and Spanish and will be spending next year at Fudan University in Shanghai. Along with Mary, I’m really looking forward to creating blog posts that share mine and my fellow classmates experience of living and studying in China and showcasing all the amazing things the year abroad offers. Helloo!! I'm Mary, incoming 3rd year representative and joint-honour Chinese and History student. In a little over a month I will be heading off to Beijing to begin my year abroad in Peking University! Hello everyone, I am so looking forward to joining the CFS committee as vice president in September! I have just spent a wonderful year studying Chinese at Peking University - I will be very sad to leave, but at least I have the thought of seeing Edinburgh again to look forward to… I can’t wait to get involved with CFS again in the autumn.
