I am the former Finance Manager of the City of Joondalup up until 2015
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Accounting and a Master Degree in Business Administration.
I am a Fellow of CPA Australia, qualified for 30 years and I have 37 years Finance Management experience in the private and public sectors including Ten years at the City of Joondalup and Seven years at the City of Perth.
WHY I AM STANDING FOR ELECTION
I saw the irrational push for the Performing Art project without State or Federal government funding, with large new debt and annual operating loss for the life of this facility that the ratepayers will pay for
I provided all Councillors directly with proper financial data on the negative financial consequences of this project on the ratepayers having regards to the property Gross Rental Value (GRV) including local business operators who pay the Rates, which led several more Councillors to oppose the project and stop its progress as proposed.
I decided to run against those who voted to progress the project, disregarding its severe negative financial impact on the Ratepayers
I am firmly independent and am not standing for any political ideology or self-interested group
MY PLEDGE TO THE COMMUNITY
After many years of my professional career spent in Local Government, I understand how things work in the City and will effectively fight for what matters to the community most, above all else.
I will take on the issues of
I will be accessible and make myself available at any time to listen to your concern.
I trust the judgement of the people who I am putting myself forward to help and I will do my best to reach a satisfactory solution to your issues and ease your concern.
Steve Meatheringham lives in Mullaloo and has been in the City of Joondalup for nearly 32 years. He runs a Surveying and Strata Management business in Ocean Reef. Steve & Melinda’s two children attend local schools and play local sport. A member of the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club he was given the Most Improved Sailor Award 2015-2016 Season. Steve was one of the original-founding members of the Mullaloo Longboarders Club and loves Sailing and enjoyed played many years of club Rugby Union along with Aussie Rules.
With over 35 years of work experience I have learnt a lot about people. I understand personal & family responsibilities as well as both local government and business responsibilities and structures. Steve is running for council so that he can represent Residents, Community Groups, Sporting Clubs and Groups. I listen to all views in regard to the needs, services and facilities, and the development and growth of the Ward. Steve’s views interests and concerns include:
Steve will
1. Listen to all the residents of Mullaloo, Ocean Reef, Heathridge, Connolly and Edgewater. Especially through groups such as the Edgewater Community Residents Association, the Connolly Residents Association, Heathridge Residents Association, Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and the like.
2. Act on the resident’s wishes and concerns.
3. Work with the Mayor and Councillors elected to ensure responsible governance and restrained budgets that address core issues of the community.
The City of Joondalup doesn't exist for the benefit of the elected members or its staff. It is there to service and represent the ratepayers and be directed by them.
I will put ratepayers first and foremost.
I will respect ratepayers, my fellow elected members and the staff.
I will make rational decisions driven by ratepayer feedback and expectations.
I will advocate for no development on the quarry site until there is extensive consultation and a community supported outcome.
I will request we have an external efficiency consultant review the Cities operational costs. We currently have an unhealthy operating surplus ratio.
I will engage with local residents who are adversely affected by the higher density development codes.
I will support third party planning rights of appeal
I will be available to ratepayers to discuss their concerns
I will act with honesty, transparency and prudence
I will advocate to have the core business of local government addressed as a priority.
I have and will continue to argue for rates containment
I have not and will not support the Performing Arts and Culture centre in its current extravagant form, location and adverse impact on rates. I will advocate a more appropriate complex subject to majority Federal and State government funding
I have not supported high rise on the ocean front at Sorrento. I advocated the ratepayers' position
I have supported the Carine residents in their effort to reduce the higher density development codes
I voted for the horse beach to be retained consistent with the overwhelming position of ratepayer feedback.
I advocated for the parks at Padbury, Craigie and Beldon to be spared from being professional Soccer grounds. They were blatantly unsuitable.
We need to create an appropriate complex for the IPL within the City at an appropriate location and significant funding by others than the City
I am a Company Chairman, Fellow Institute of Public Accountants, with extensive private and public executive experience.
I am truly independent and will not be beholding to any political party, religious group or sect. It's time for a respectful, rational, transparent and ratepayer's Mayor
"Here's my pledge to you, and other groups like yours.
