Welcome to the online home of the Edgewater Community Residents' Association. This page has been set up as an information hub for people living in and connected to the suburb of Edgewater, Western Australia.
The Edgewater Community Residents' Association (ECRA) is currently in the process of establishment (June 2017) and this site will be developed as we progress.
We welcome your input and ideas for content and features for this site. This is a community owned resource and we need all the input we can get to make this page a living and breathing resource for everyone.
The chipala court application was unanimously refused at the JDAP but will go to SAT at the end of August for another hearing. We hope that COJcontinues to defend its original decision to refuse.
We are looking for members to get involved in the HOA sub committee and should anyone want to join please email ECRA.
ECRA has been given two places on the quarry reference group. We are forming a sub committee to ensure the community’s voice is heard. Again please email ECRA if you want to participate
Fundraising. We are looking for fundraising ideas. Please share your ideas. Current thoughts are Edgewater tote bags, coffee mugs, sunflowers in pots.
ECRA
COJ have notified the ECRA that a JDAP meeting is to be held concerning the feedback from Edgewater residents over the development. The link to the letter from JDAP with details of the meeting is below and the letter is attached in PDF as well

ECRA
Hi Everyone
After the last ECRA Meeting, where the members agreed that we should continue to fight the densification of our beautiful suburb, we said we would give you a guide on how best to support our efforts through actively engaging the Politicians, both at State level and at the City of Joondalup, through sending emails and letters expressing your thoughts on the matter.
It is important that these letters are your opinions and your words. A form letter just doesn’t cut the mustard and will be ignored; we have received this advice from Emily Hamilton MLA.
RECENT ACTIONS
Our Local MLA Emily Hamilton spoke on 6PR the other night, you can hear the conversation here : https://www.6pr.com.au/podcast/residents-left-in-the-dark-over-infill-planning
WA Today has also published a very good story on how “Joondalup “deserves better” than infill planning “mess”:Saffioti”.This article outlines many of the issues we have with the current planning mess at the City of Joondalup. This article follows on from Emily’s Grievance speech and Minister Saffioti’s letter to the Mayor. You can read the article in full here: http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/joondalup-deserves-better-than-infill-planning-mess-saffioti-20180427-p4zc46.html
ECRA has also written again to the Mayor and Councillors seeking the Council reconsider the motions passed at our Special Elector’s Meeting, i.e. to return the zoning in the HOA to the 2010 level of R20/R30.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Below you will find some suggested ideas for inclusion in your letters as well as the names and email addresses of the people you should connect with. Again we reiterate, write from the heart, if the lack of true consultation, and the way the council went about hiding the change of zoning is your biggest issue, let the powers that be know. If trees and wildlife are your concern, express yourself!
Letter Ideas
2. Housing Opportunity Areas: Let them know that you live inside the Housing Opportunity Area or not but that you stand with all of Edgewater as part of a united community.
3. Consultation process: Remind them that in 2010 we were consulted on becoming part of the HOA, but at a level of densification presented to us as R20/R30 and described as an opportunity to downsize our blocks through subdivision and granny flats.
Then in 2017 the City of Joondalup chose not to inform us of their decision to up the zoning to R20/R40, because, as they have advised us, the City “would not have listened to our objections”. The City expected we would object once we understood the ramifications of R40, (the poor quality flats and apartments that so far have been before the Council for Development Approval). You may like to add that this has made you feel disenfranchised from the process, misinformed by the City of Joondalup and deceived by their conduct.
The Effects of Densification:
Please feel free to write from your heart, with your concerns; make this real to the politicians. The more voices they hear the better. Remind them we are not against some increase in density, we’ve asked to go back to the R20/R30 proposed in 2010, but it must be done within community expectations and with full, open and respectful consultation with the community. We also seek provisions that will ensure our enjoyment of the suburb is at least maintained and our trees and wildlife protected.

Council votes 7-6 not to proceed to development stage of Joondalup Performing Arts and Cultural Facility:
26th June 2017
Thank you to everyone who has come along to our meetings during the last 2 weeks. The first meeting on June 22nd was attended by nearly 40 people, and the meeting tonight on 26th of June was attended by more than 70. The meeting minutes will be published under the meeting minutes page on this site here.
The first meeting covered the formal establishment of ECRA and voting for committee positions. The second meeting discussed what we currently know about the planning related to the Edgewater Quarry, and our intention to act as an information collecting and dissemination body on behalf of local residents. Also discussed was the proposed City of Joondalup Performing Arts Centre and the significant cost that this will have on council funds. The meeting minutes will be published shortly.
A number of us will attend the council public meeting on Tuesday June 27th to voice our opinions on the planned use of Edgewater Quarry and the need for the Edgewater Community to be involved in planning this. We invite you to attend. The meeting will be held at the council offices, Civic Place, Joondalup, 6:30pm.
23rd June 2017
The registration for the Association under the name "Edgewater Community Residents' Association" has been blocked due to a clash with a lapsed association of the same name, established in 2002. The Association has been registered under the name "West Yellagonga Residents' Association" until such time that the lapsed association has been closed down officially by the Department of Commerce.
