In December 2017, Simon Crumbleholme of Warmwell, near Dorchester, Dorset (UK) purchased a 1922 Aveling & Porter Steam Road Roller. It had originally been purchased new and operated by Eddision from their Dorchester yard in 1922. This Roller (Reg FX 9640) is the nearest one in the photograph above of their Dorchester yard.
This website has been created to record this Roller in particular and Eddison Steam in Dorset in general.
The Eddison company started in Martinstown, a village about 4 miles west of the county town of Dorchester and soon expanded with a large yard in Dorchester itself. Later, the company became a national one with many depots and a head office in Grantham in Lincolnshire.
