Cabin life in Upstate New York
Meet Karley and Ben, and their German Short-haired Pointer, Guinness. Karley and Ben have traveled across the world to more than 40 different countries as professional travel bloggers since 2015. Guinness joined the family in 2020 along with their two little boys, Leo and Max! You can find them today adventuring in Upstate New York exploring the many trails and spending time at their family’s cabin.
About the cabin:
A big storm on January 8th, 2003 had brought lots of snow, wind and ice. About 70 pine trees had fallen down on the hill. Karley’s grandfather with his children had planted about 1,000 pine trees 30 years before. Once spring arrived the family came up with the idea to use the trees to build a log cabin. Peeling off the bark to stacking the logs each member of the family helped bring the cabin to life one step at a time. Mud, lime and cement was used for chinking to seal the space between the logs. A six pane window that opens and a handmade screen lets in some light and air. A large door and wide floor boards were also installed with the help from a local historic sawmill. A green tin roof tops the cabin and the pitter-patter of rain sounds beautiful on a rainy day. The size of the cabin measures 10x10 from the inside. Furnished with a cot, full sized bed, two chairs and a small wood stove. Just the right amount of space for gathering with a few friends and family members.
Bedding:
The Sherwood Comforter we have on our bed is easy to care for and is pet friendly. We all love spending time tucked into bed and during the cold winter months we are warm and cozy! The soft and cozy feel of flannel against the skin makes flannel sheets our choice in our cabin. The brushed surface of the flannel helps trap air and body heat, while allowing your skin to breathe. Compared to fleece or other man-made fibers, flannel will keep you warm and won’t cause you to overheat. The flannel faux shearling throws are our favorite blankets for our adventures. Each throw blanket is crafted with cotton flannel and faux shearling for added warmth and coziness for cold weather. Easy to pack and carry-on friendly makes these throws a must have travel accessory.
Tips:
Flannel is easy to care for by simply washing in warm or cold water and then tumble dry on a warm setting. We often hang on a clothesline in the spring and fall. If you like to have flannel sheets on your bed during the colder months, have two or three sets you can interchange!
