In America, an estimated 34.8% of pet-owning households include dogs.
This is nearly 48 million households and 77 million dogs, as reported in 2018 by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Of these households, 84% reported that when they travel with their dogs they do not restrain them.
This is especially significant when we take into account the distraction a dog creates for the driver of the car. Survey data shows restraints on the market are less than ideal for preventing distractions caused by dogs, and therefore are less than ideal for keeping dogs and their owners safe.
