Artificial intelligence is transforming education from a digitally supported environment into an increasingly intelligent, adaptive, and personalized learning ecosystem. This transformation requires a reconsideration of the roles of teachers, learners, educational technologies, and assessment. Rather than replacing teachers, AI should be viewed as a pedagogical partner that can support professional decision-making, personalize learning pathways, provide timely feedback, and enhance learner engagement and autonomy.

This plenary presentation explores intelligent education through four interconnected dimensions: teacher competence and professional development, AI agents and interactive educational avatars, personalized learning, and emerging models of assessment. Particular attention is given to the role of teachers in designing pedagogically meaningful AI-supported environments while maintaining human oversight, ethical responsibility, transparency, and educational relevance.

The presentation also examines how AI agents can provide context-sensitive explanations, multimodal resources, adaptive support, and formative feedback according to learners’ needs, interests, and progress. In parallel, new approaches to assessment are considered, shifting from the evaluation of final outcomes toward continuous, formative, competence-based, and data-informed assessment.

Examples from teacher training, intelligent learning platforms, and interactive avatars developed within the Centre for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in Education illustrate the practical implementation of these principles. The central argument is that the future of intelligent education depends not only on advanced AI technologies, but primarily on pedagogical design, teacher competence, responsible implementation, and effective human–AI collaboration.
