Hi everyone!
My name is Taylor Klaiber, and I am a graduate student and 2nd-grade teacher. I grew up with a very supportive family and have 2 older brothers who have helped to pave my way to success. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago called Naperville and truly had the greatest experience growing up in such an amazing city. Currently, I live in Shelby Township, Michigan with is about 30 minutes north of Detroit.
In 2019, I made arguably one of the best decisions of my life and decided to enroll at Western Michigan University. I thought it would just be the average college experience, the perfect distance away from home while still having the convenience to drive home. I never would have imagined that the friends and people I met would make such a big impact on my life. I truly met lifelong friends and created bonds that will last forever! In my degree program, I was able to get some amazing hands on experience in the classroom and left feeling ready to take on the real world. I graduated in December 2023 with a degree in Early Childhood Professional Education (K-5).
While at Western, I worked as a nanny and in a daycare setting for all 4 years. Through my degree program, I was able to do internships in the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP, preschool), Kindergarten, 5th grade, and then did my final round of student teaching in 2nd grade. During my student teaching experience, I instantly fell in love with second grade and knew that was where my heart was. At the time, my mentor teacher was pregnant and right before graduation, she gave birth so I was able to take over the second grade classroom until March. Those 3 months really helped shape me into the teacher I am today and I am forever grateful for that group of 2nd graders!
I am currently working in Warren, MI (super close to Detroit) and am teaching 2nd grade. This is only my second year teaching and I feel that I have already grown so much and improved my teaching skills. The job has been challenging, but also very rewarding. With this job, comes a heavy emphasis on reading. Most of my 2nd graders are significantly below grade level and struggle reading just basic words. I have been able to use a lot of skills learned in this program to see growth from them.
Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with friends and family. I love to travel and be outside whenever possible. As you may have seen from my photos, I have recently come to love a new hobby of skiing. In addition to that I love watching sports, working out, visiting new spots in Northern Michigan, spending time in the sun and reading a good book.
A Look Into My Life
I love summer trips and spending time up north with my boyfriend. Mackinac Island is a new favorite place of mine!
This past December, I learned how to ski and it is quickly becoming a new favorite hobby.
I love watching all Detroit sports, but the lions are definitely my favorite!
My friends are such an important part of my life. I love being able to spend time with them and create new memories.
Country concerts are another favorite activity of mine!
In the summer months, I love to go camping. It is so peaceful and relaxing, especially when camping near a lake.
Recently, I started running and ran my first 5k at the Big House!
Here are two of my closest friends who mean the world to me and are a big part of my support system!
