Getting here

The workshop will be held in LAK 2.06 (Lakatos Building, room 2.06) at the London School of Economics, Portugal Street, London, WC2A 2AE, United Kingdom.  The entrance to the Lakatos building is opposite the George IV pub on Portugal Street, London.

From 09:30 each day, tea and coffee will be served in the ground floor of the Lakatos Building. Counterintuitively, as you enter LAK from the street, you need to go down to get to the ground floor. The common room is through the only door on that floor other than the lift.  Lunch will be served in B.07 in the Sir Arthur Lewis building near to LAK.

See an official Campus Map (LAK is a small building in the centre) for the precise building

The LSE is located in central London, and driving or relying on taxis is inadvisable and strongly discouraged relative to public transportation, walking, or cycling, except in cases of disability.

Disabled Parking:

Disabled parking spots can be found here, by searching the London School of Economics (or the postcode WC2A 2AE) in the search bar.  Blue Badge Holders can stay in any bay for free and without time limit.

By public transportation:

For buses and the London Underground ('tube'), the easiest way to pay for journeys is to tap your bank card/credit card/phone with payment app on the gates as you go in and out of the tube or onto a bus.  You can instead get an 'oyster' payment card and tap that, but this is not necessary and has no price advantages for most fare-payers.

The closest underground stations are Holborn (Central and Piccadilly lines) and Temple (Circle and District lines), each a 5-10 minute walk from the venue.

Many buses also go near the LSE; if taking a bus, do allow for the possibility that it might get stuck in traffic rather than sticking rigidly to advertised schedules, especially around rush hour.

Major National and International Rail Stations: City Thameslink is about a 15 minute walk.  Waterloo Station is around 20 minutes' walk or 10 minutes by bus.  Euston, King's Cross/St. Pancras (Eurostar), Liverpool St., London Bridge, and Victoria stations are all around 45 minutes' walk or 15-20 minutes by tube or rental bicycle (see below); Paddington is around 1 hour walk or 25-30 minutes by tube or rental bicycle (see below).

From Heathrow airport, the most straitforward route is to take the Piccadilly line to Holborn (about 1 hr), although taking the Elizabeth Line to Tottenham Court Road/Farringdon and then changing to a bus/tube can be slightly quicker.

From Gatwick airport, the easiest route is to take the Thameslink to City Thameslink station, or to take the Gatwick Express or Southern Rail to Victoria then to take the Underground (District/Circle to Temple) or a bus (both about 1 hour).

By bicycle:

The LSE has ample bicycle parking and facilities such as bike pumps, including immediately outside the Lakatos building: see here.

Much of central London, including around the LSE, has quiet roads and protected cycle infrastructure, but you do need to plan your route to avoid spending time on busier roads like Kingsway and High Holborn, which can be intimidating for inexperienced cyclists. Here is an in-depth guide for how to do so, with links to helpful apps and maps.

E-scooter and bike-share rental

Several companies (including Lime, Santander, Forest, and Tier) have bike-share schemes, offering e-bicycles and scooters which you can easily rent for short journeys through an app. You will find these bikes all over central London, wherever people have parked them.  If you plan on using these bikes, you are advised to bring your own helmet, although wearing a helmet is not a legal requirement for cycling in the UK.  The easiest way to find the nearest such bike is through an app such as CityMapper, which will also give you directions, including options for quiet cycle routes (note that in London, Google Maps tends to recommend riskier cycling routes which are more exposed to traffic).
