The white pine need full sun and can only tolerate little bitts of shade and can not handle it for long but if planted in shade can only grow very slowly. White pines grow better among overhead trees but there has to be an opening of sun because if not it will grow very slowly in shade. If pines get enough sunlight in their life they can grow up to be 50-80 ft and they have a potential to be 150ft plus. White pines have a rapid growth of 2ft each year.
The animals that live in this tree are white winged crossbill, pileated woodpeckers, lynx, flying squirrels, and bald eagles. All of these animals use the white pine tree for protection from predators, shelter and food.
