Bringing Back the Bees, Butterflies, and Birds Through the Power of Native Plants
Bringing Back the Bees, Butterflies, and Birds Through the Power of Native Plants
Committed to expanding native flora and fauna populations with a particular focus on increasing caterpillar biomass (inspired by Doug Tallamy and the Home Grown National Park movement)
I'm a lifelong organic gardener who suddenly realized that without native plants, our gardens are food deserts for native butterflies, moths and many bees. Now I'm fighting back against the 'insect apocalypse' by planting and promoting species that provide the most 'host food' possible.
After converting my own garden from a useless lawn and box hedge to a thriving native garden filled with insects, birds, lizards, salamanders and more, I started sharing leftover seeds with friends, family and neighbors. And I started researching everything I could about native California ecosystems in order to share information and inspiration along with the seeds. As the questions rolled in, I deepened my research and realized that a website could provide a much more robust resource.
I hope that you find inspiration and answers here on the site, and that the years ahead are filled with native blooms, butterflies, bees and birds wherever you live.
Enjoy!
Jennifer
