This is the activist arm of the Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour
The Native Plant Resource Teams bring together individuals from around the greater San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, to plant and promote California native plants. Teams are organized by interest areas such as Home Gardens, Pollinator Pathways & Public Parks (including schools), Sharing Native Seeds & Plants. They are also organized by region, so that neighbors can assist each other with projects, advocate for native plants on the local level, and get together to share plants and visit each others gardens. Whichever teams you decide to join, you’ll be part of a robust network of like minded people from diverse backgrounds.

A few months after we tore out our lawn and started planting California natives, I noticed that there was a native garden tour in our area - how exciting! Then I realized this on the very last night that we could register our garden, and my husband was already asleep. So I just jumped in and signed us up - we were halfway done with our front yard anyway, and could surely be ready in time. It worked! Having a deadline really motivated us and sharing our garden on tour day is now a highlight of our year.
Since the tour runs for two days, we get a chance to also see other gardens and they are amazing! Gather your friends, pack a lunch and start early so you can see as many gardens as possible.

Ever since I discovered native gardening in 2020, I have been amazed at the variety and beauty of native gardens. And there is no better way to explore all the possibilities than to take a free, in-person tour! We always pack lunch, snacks and water so we can see as many gardens as possible. It is especially fun when we've caravanned with friends and we're always sure to take lots of pictures so we can use ideas in our own garden.
If you are not able to attend the in person tour, there is also a virtual two day tour featuring garden hosts, beautiful video tours of their gardens, and online talks about gardening for birds, butterflies and more.
