Visit to the Papagiannis Museum of Contemporary Art
On Tuesday, October 7 , 2025, we will visit the Papagiannis Museum in the village of Elliniko, Ioannina, and collaborate with the Environmental Education Center of Pramanta.
The Papagiannis Museum, dedicated to the work of the internationally renowned sculptor Theodoros Papagiannis, is located in his birthplace, the village of Elliniko, Ioannina. Housed in the old Primary School, it hosts sculptures, engravings, and other works that showcase the artist’s creative journey. The village of Elliniko, built on a lush slope of Mount Mitsikeli, stands out for its natural beauty and its view of the Arachthos valley, combining Epirus’ tradition with the modern artistic spirit that the Museum brings.
The day will begin with a tour at Mr. Papagiannis’ work “The Garbage Man”, where a discussion and presentation of the artist’s message will take place. At the Papagiannis Museum, students will participate in a guided tour and creative activities, such as making their own works of art.
Afterwards, if time is sufficient, we will continue our route (by bus, at a slow pace) up to the Monastery of Tsouka. Throughout the route, students will observe the sculptures along the roadside and give them names, essentially “baptizing” them. The tour will then reach the Monastery of Tsouka, the “balcony” of the Arachthos Gorge.
