Photography Exhibition
The month started with a photography exhibition featuring the diverse birdlife of Goa, captured through the lens of Mr. Shailendra Naik, renowned wildlife photographer and three times winner of The Annual All-Goa Bird Photography Competition. The exhibition focused on the ecological significance of birds in Goa’s habitats alongside their beauty. Students and faculty had discussions highlighting how important it is to protect these bird species.
The Eco Club, in collaboration with the Silver Screen Club, hosted the documentary Nilgiris: A Shared Wilderness by Felis Films. The film portrayed the fragile ecosystems of the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve, emphasizing the delicate balance between biodiversity and human activity. The screening was followed by conversations among attendees and crew of the documentary.
The Eco Club also collaborated with the BITS Goa Quiz Club to host a GeoGuessr challenge. The event blended geography, ecology, and quizzing, challenging participants (from first to final year) to identify locations around the world using environmental clues. The interactive competition brought students with shared interests in geography, sustainability, and environmental science together, while also promoting quick thinking and ecological awareness in a fun format.
The month concluded with a bird-watching session led by Saranya Ma’am and joined by Shailendra Naik. Students gathered early at the Children’s Park to observe local birdlife in its natural habitat. The session proved especially rewarding as participants successfully spotted Jacobin Cuckoo and a Spotted Owlet, marking highlights of the morning. Photography enthusiasts benefited from on-field guidance by Mr. Shailendra, while others gained a first-hand appreciation for Goa’s biodiversity. The outing emphasized the importance of field-based learning in building ecological sensitivity.
