Environmental and Climate Change
Literacy Project and Summit
ECCLPS
Project Description
The Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Project and Summit (ECCLPS) (sponsored a two-day sustainability summit, which was attended by various parties including CSU, UC, State Board of Education, NSF, Ten Strands, National Geographic, etc. This was a joint project of CSU and UC, and in partnership with Ten Strands. Our goal was to educate 500,000 graduating high school students per year in California to become literate in environmental and climate change issues and solutions. And the best way to do this is through educator preparation programs. We are now on the second year of working when the pandemic hit. We are currently re-planning our strategies to achieve this goal.
One of the projects that I was thinking of doing this year is to write an interdisciplinary course and/or curriculum in elementary and/or secondary teacher preparation programs that will give specific attention to sustainability and environmental literacy (as expressed in California’s Environmental Principles & Concepts (EP&Cs) and be used by the educator preparation and teacher residency programs in several CSU campuses. This is where you come in. I am inviting you to be a part of this writing team. With your background in the topic and educator preparation, I think your contribution to this writing team will be ideal. For this effort and budget allowing, we are planning to buy you out for two courses, with the approvals your Department Chair and Dean of course
