There is a considerable diversity of learners in our schools. We acknowledge that our students have varied lives, and this variation can play a critical role in their learning experiences. Each student a has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, past life experiences, family and household values and opportunities outside of school. This is why we continually work purposefully to ensure that the infrastructure, social and academic curriculum, and overall learning experiences in our schools are equitable for all. Our efforts are visible in the commitments we make every day to ensure that supports for learning, enrichment and extracurricular activities, and leveraging of technology for learning is available and accessible to each student. Our efforts to achieve equity for all are also evident in our long-term school district planning, including appropriate budgeting, professional learning for school staff, and feedback from the community.
We recognize that a student’s development and success in learning is directly related to the opportunities accessible in our curriculum. Just like our students, our highly qualified educators are diverse in their experiences, practices and mindsets. Our educators each have areas of their professional practices that are notable strengths, but they also have diverse needs for growth. This is why we invest in professional learning opportunities for our educators to grow our schools’ capacities for executing educational best practices. We also facilitate equitable learning opportunities for students by supporting our educators in collaborating on unit and lesson planning. This occurs systematically in inter-school, grade-level, and learning content educator groups. We are better when we learn and develop together.
Technology plays a powerful role in modern education. And, we are committed to using technology in our schools to help students do more, and learn more. Coordinating truly equitable technology-rich resources and opportunities is constantly part of our educational planning. We strive to make sure that students across grade levels and classrooms in our schools have access to technology resources when needed and expectations for learning at home does not cause inequity, particularly with regard to technology access. Our goal is to ensure that students and teachers can leverage technology both when appropriate and when desired.
