Origin

Born from the Well of Souls like her sisters, Philippus emerged with the ingrained resilience and warrior spirit of all Amazons. Through years of relentless training and service, she earned a place in the High Guard—the elite corps charged with defending Themyscira’s ruler and sacred traditions. Her skill in combat and sharp tactical mind made her one of Hippolyta’s most trusted lieutenants, eventually becoming the island’s foremost general.

Philippus’ position was not only as a military leader, but as a close confidante to Queen Hippolyta. She often provided counsel during moments of crisis, tempering the queen’s caution with measured pragmatism. Fiercely protective of Amazon law, Philippus nevertheless showed empathy when others—especially Diana—challenged tradition.

The Steve Trevor Incident

When Steve Trevor crash-landed near Themyscira, Hippolyta ordered him detained at the shoreline, forbidding him to set foot on the island. Philippus was entrusted with guarding him, showing her discipline by maintaining the queen’s orders while quietly allowing the wounded pilot a degree of comfort.

It was Philippus who retrieved the armor once gifted by Hippolyta to Diana Rockwell—Steve’s mother—and presented it before the Amazons, confirming the truth of his story. This act became a key moment in the chain of events that led to the Tournament of the Gods.

The Tournament

During the tournament, Philippus supported Diana’s plea for compassion toward Steve, subtly signaling her approval of the princess’s courage and conviction. When Diana revealed herself as the tournament’s masked victor, Philippus was unsurprised by the outcome—her smile on the shoreline hinted that she had anticipated this all along.

As a member of the High Guard, Philippus personally took part in presenting Diana with the sacred relics of Themyscira—the Lasso of Truth, the Bracelets of Submission, and her armor—before the princess departed as the Amazons’ emissary.
