ʻEa Ka ʻAi o Hawaiʻi. ʻEa is sovereignty but also breath, life, and the action of rising. ʻAi is food but also the right to freedom, autonomy, and is accompanied by both privileges and responsibilities. By saying ʻEa Ka ʻAi o Hawaiʻi, we are equating these two.
ʻEa Ka ʻAi o Hawaiʻi means that within the foods of Hawaiʻi, there is sovereignty and breath, and from this comes life. Through ʻea comes ʻai, through ʻai comes ʻea, and all of this is born of the ʻāina!
Our overarching mission is to share our understanding of resiliency and ʻEa in Hawaiʻi, to show that through ʻāina we can actualize a better world. We seek to draw connections between sovereignty, food production, and resilience, and we strive to kickstart discourse and relationships between local food and resiliency producers and community members.
