General Observations + Notices
It rained through the night and a little bit in the morning, so the terrain on the way here was a bit slippery. I almost fell a few times.
The water of the stream is a little bit murky, and there are a lot of dirt clouds from uplifted sediment.
It's a lot cooler here today, and the sun is absent.
There are some fallen branches in the stream that weren't here yesterday, or any of the previous days.
Today was a pretty chill day, and everything went smoothly. To begin, I set up my notebook by giving myself a template for all the data that needed to be put in for today. This would make things a lot easier for me once I got to the stream. Then I checked the packing list, and once I finished packing my backpack and getting all ready, I made my way down to the stream.
Once there, I began my water sampling. First, I scooped up some water using my larger test tube with the blue cap. I sealed it tightly and put it away. Then I filled up my syringe with stream water, attached a filter to it, and then slowly and carefully squeezed out the filtered water into my smaller test tube with the green cap. After, I underwent my daily water testing.
I recorded the outside temperature using the weather app on my phone, and then using my TDS Test Pen, I obtained the conductivity of the water. Then, still using the TDS Test Pen, I recorded the temperature of 5 different areas of the stream, and averaged them. Now it was time for pH testing. I grabbed both the broad range and small range pH paper, and recorded the pH which came out to be 6.4. I recorded all of these values into my notebook in their allotted space. Then I packed up all of my stuff and headed home where I would begin my lead sampling of the soil surrounding my house.
At home, I grabbed a bowl and spoon, and collected soil from 5 different areas that are pictured below on this page. I mixed all of these up in the bowl, and then scooped out soil until the given bag was around half full. After that, I hosed down my legs with water to remove the lingering traces of my adventures, and then I went inside. Overall, I've had a wonderful time so far, and each day was very exciting! I can't wait to be on campus and have lots of fun there!
